Causes of Slurry Pump Problems

If you are a slurry pump operator, you may be worried about leakage, overheating, or system inefficiencies. These pumping system problems are more complicated and costly than you may realize. Over 80% of pumping issues are due to the pump itself.

Why doesn't my pump work?

Most problems with slurry pumping are due to the suction side. Pumping can be affected by a variety of operational and mechanical issues. Discover here the common reasons why your slurry pump might not be working correctly.

Unstable operating conditions

Look out for insufficient flow, high bearing temperatures, and abnormal vibrations. These symptoms could be a sign that the pump is not matched to its operating conditions.

Incorrect installation

A poorly installed pump can lead to a number of problems, including high operating temperatures, overloaded motors, flange leaks, and vibration.

Poor maintenance

A lack of proper and regular maintenance could lead to a pump with contaminated bearings, high temperatures, or leaking.

Wear

Worn components or materials are the leading causes of pump failure. If you suspect that wear is the cause, check for low flow rates, leakage, and high operating temperatures. Also, look out for casing leaks.

Poor operation or observation

If maintenance staff is not careful about the speed and consistency with which they are pumping the material, pumps can have issues with excessive discharge pressure, overheating, and vibration.
