Hyperthyroidism can be treated with radioactive iodine, which destroys the part of your glands but does not affect or harm other parts of your body. It can also be treated with antithyroid drugs if you have mild symptoms. Hypothyroidism can be treated by taking pills prescribed for thyroid hormone.
